Students can book appointments by telephoning extension 4777, or by leaving an essay for Dr. Whitehead in the Faculty Office in Dante Lenardon Hall, DL210.
The Effective Writing Instructor provides academically oriented and intensive tutoring, which can include, but is not restricted to, any of the following:
- talking through ideas and finding a focus.
- discussing an outline
- discussing a draft
- answering general questions about research, writing and critical reading
- explaining a marker's notes and corrections at more length and helping the student to re-write an essay (if applicable)
In discussing specific assignments, the instructor’s role is strictly limited to listening, questioning and responding to what is already written. AT NO POINT will the instructor actively re-write, edit or add content to a student’s work.
A Note to Faculty: Classroom presentations
The Effective Writing Instructor will be available to give class presentations on essay writing by arrangement with instructors. To book a presentation, you may telephone Ext. 4466, or email ohw@uwo.ca. Presentations can include a general overview of the essay writing process or can focus on particular areas such as finding a thesis, using sources, editing and re?writing.
